Oscar de la Renta: The Retrospective at De Young Museum

May is a busy busy month with too many parties and opening nights. On May 7th, ArtPoint held their annual gala at de Young museum with a well dressed crowd and lots of fashion enthusiasts . This year they are showcasing the fabulous Oscar de la Renta and of course we got to take a look at the exhibit all dressed up and sipped some bubbly on the dance floor afterwards. I have to say I wasn't crazy about the party (I think it wasn't planned well and didn't meet my expectations knowing they did much better before) but the exhibit is amazing!

Back to Mr. de la Renta (RIP), he was always one of my favorite designers with his romantic, delicate and elegant style with silk prints, ruffles and soft silhouettes and this exhibit truly celebrates his career as being one of fashion's most influential designers.
He was born in Dominican Republic and left his town for Madrid at the age of eighteen to study. He was deeply inspired by the people, customs and history of Spain and started his career at the couture house of Balenciaga. He considered Cristobal Balenciaga as his mentor. In 1961 he left Spain to join Antonio del Castillo as a couture assistant at Lanvin in Paris, then worked for Elizabeth Arden and in 1965 he began his own signature ready-to-wear label. Mr de la Renta also designed for haute couture collection for Balmain from 1993 to 2002 besides his own label. Fashion world lost a great designer when he passed away in 2014 but for sure his legacy continues to inspire many designers and artists.

Go see the exhibit at de Young before May 30th if you still haven't and enjoy some pictures I took that day including my favorite pieces.

MET Gala 2016 - Manus x Machina

The first Monday in May is always a big night for fashion. And we can simply refer the Met Gala as the Oscars of fashion. This years theme was  "Manus x Machina" and it meant to explore fashion in the age of technology. The dress code memo was futuristic and innovative and seems like many attendees got it right. Silver metallics, white, black and even latex ruled the red carpet with lots of sparkle, beads and cut outs. The flawless make ups with dark lips and sleek hair complemented the high tech and modern looks. I have too many favorites but I tried to narrow it down :)
