SF Symphony & Opera Opening Night Galas

It has been so hectic lately that I can’t even post on my blog..Shame on me! But in this craziness I made it to two very big events in the city last week. I attended SF Symphony 100th year Opening Night Gala on Wednesday and SF Opera Opening Night Gala on Friday! Yesss and I managed to do it all with one day apart with a full time job. Both nights were full of style, elegance, glamour, music and good food. At the Symphony concert it was amazing to listen to Lang Lang's piano performance. On friday's opening I loved loved SF Opera’s new season opening production, Puccini’s masterpiece, “Turandot”, it was very dramatic and carried me away with its story, costumes, décor and beautiful music.

And the fashion...SF ladies did it again, spotted so many fabulous gowns on both nights. Red and pink were the popular colors as well as shades of purple and emerald green. A line gowns with big skirts, mermaid train gowns and tiered dresses were chosen by many fashionable ladies for this posh social scene.
Fairy tale glam summarizes these opening nights perfectly and most of us took our place in this colorful & dreamy act happily ever after..

Tassen Museum Hendrikje (The Museum of Bags & Purses)

Summer feels so over in August! I got back from vacation last week but still longing for the wonderful people I was with and the beautiful places I have been to. And the weather in SF is not helping either. Classic August, mornings are cold and foggy and the majesty, sun, shows her face in the afternoon then vanishes in the late afternoon leaving her crown to the ugly fog..

Enough of blues, I wanted to write about the bag & purse museum that I visited this past July in Amsterdam called “Tassen Museum Hendrikje”. It was a pretty cool place with 4000 bags and purses from different era’s being the world’s largest bag museum. Exhibit includes items from 16th century to the present day including designer bags. The history behind the museum idea is very interesting as well, The Museum of Bags and Purses was formed from the private collection of Mrs Hendrikje Ivo, who collected bags for more than 35 years (what a luxury). Her fascination started with a leather bag she found in England as an antiquarian and her interest expanded in years and eventually built a unique collection that has been on display for 15 years.

The museum is located at a gorgeous historic canal house built in 1664 with painted ceilings. You can finish your tour with an afternoon high tea in one of the beautifully decorated historic rooms. Next time you are in Amsterdam this can be a very interesting visit besides all the amazing museums this city offers..(Of course Van Gogh and RijksMuseum shouldn’t be missed!)

Enjoy my pictures! (Partner in crime, my sweet cousin and aunt! Love you guys!)
